Nakai Nam Theun National Park

Management

Nakai Nam Theun National Park is managed by the Nakai Nam Theun National Park Management Authority, which is under the authority of the Department of Forestry and the National Protected Area Management Division of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry. Due to its importance as a national park, the park directors are appoint-ed by the central level, in contrast to national protected areas which are managed by provincial level directors

National Park Administration Committee

Park management is divided into six units:
• Law Enforcement
• Biodiversity Research & Monitoring
• Livelihoods
• Conservation Outreach & Awareness
• Ecotourism
• Administration
The park employs over 50 full-time staff in addition to the many part-time staff and volunteers from the villages who work on law enforcement and village development activities.

District & Provincial Cooperation

District  and  provincial  government  agencies  cooperate with the park to implement village-based activities including livelihoods, education, ecotourism,  and  land-use  planning.  Strong  cooperation with local authorities is important to ensure that socio-economic  development  and  park  conservation plans are coordinated

Funding & Partners

Nakai Nam Theun National Park receives funding from the Nam Theun 2 Power Company as a payment for ecosystem services to protect the water-
shed, alleviate poverty in surrounding villages, andprotect biodiversity. The park has many other partners and supporters including:
